If you are responsible for teaching reading in grades K-6 or if you teach struggling readers in K-12, this session is for you!   The Language and Literacy series goes beyond the basics of reading and will deepen participants’ understanding of research based reading instruction by helping them understand the language structures that support reading.  In Spelling:  It Doesn’t Suck, participants will learn that English is not crazy!  Although it may be more difficult to spell than other languages, most English spellings can be explained and an understanding of these patterns can help teachers support students in reading, spelling and writing.  This session will help teachers better understand reading and spelling development, how print represents speech, and how teachers can more successfully teach reading through an increased understanding of spelling patterns in the English language.  Recommended prerequisite, Language and Literacy session 1.
